It’s here! We can finally put to rest those darned iPhone 6 rumours that’s been hounding us for months! Tim Cook and company had their big reveal last September 9 so we can confirm a few things about the glorious iPhone 6.
First, there ARE two iPhone 6’s. And second, the iWatch exists! It was NOT a figment of our hyper-imagination after all. But it also doesn’t look like how most of us initially thought.
Regardless, let’s take a moment to break down all the good things (and maybe some of the not-so-good-ones) Apple unveiled about their cool new addition.
Breaking it Down…
1. They totally come in two sizes!
There’s the 4.7 inch iPhone 6 and a 5.5 inch iPhone 6 Plus for you to choose from. They come in a much thinner body too at 6.9 mm and 7.1 mm, respectively. As for the sides, it’s all curves so even if they could be (possibly) cumbersome in terms of size, they could still offer a stable grip thanks to their shape.
2. Two words: RETINA DISPLAY
Yes. If you’ve seen what a world of difference retina display makes on the iPad and Macbook Pro, then you can just imagine how amazing the screen will look on your iPhone.
3. Better Camera
Hello, FaceTime! And no, Apple didn’t up the megapixels on the cameras but instead they did something better. They tweaked them to feature better sensors, image mapping, noise reduction etc. While the megapixels didn’t climb, you still get better quality images compared to the iPhone 5.
As for its video taking, this is something we’re excited about. The new phones have a new 240 fps Slo-Mo option AND a shooting support for 1080p at 60 fps! All those home videos can now be done using this and at better quality! Now, if they can just waterproof this completely, add great stabilisation, amazing audio recording and include mounts, we’ll totally have a competitor for the Go Pro! But seriously, the video capacity is pretty exciting. Don’t you think?
4. Insane Storage Space… for a Phone!
There’s no external storage for the iPhone. And once you buy one, you’re stuck with the storage. But with these new iPhones, storage woes will be a thing of the past. The iPhone 6 can be had at a maximum of 128 GB! On – a –smartphone!
5. Ion Strength Glass (Maybe no more spiderglass?)
There were talks of Sapphire glass debuting with this model but it seems it didn’t make the cut. The iPhone 6 instead carries and ion strengthened glass that is - wait for it – strong enough to withstand drops! So yep, we can expect to say bye-bye to those pesky spiderglass.
6. Faster Connectivity
According to the Apple website, the Apple iPhone 6 features a faster LTE, reaching speeds of up to 150 Mbps. Then there’s also VoLTE or Voice LTE which helps make conversations a lot more crisper compared to previous models. Imagine your FaceTime moments with this phone! There’s also 3x faster Wifi, so yeah, need we say more?
7. Better Battery Life? (*crosses fingers*)
Okay, this one, we’d rather wait and see but wouldn’t it be awesome if Apple does manage to improve its battery life? Out of everything, this has got to be the most desired iPhone improvement. However, no mention of a better battery life was dropped on the presentation last September 9. What Apple said is that there will be battery monitoring for the devices and that the iPhone 6 will have almost similar standby time with the iPhone 5S with one additional hour of internet and an hour for video playback.
For those who are willing to pony up the cash, the iPhone 6 Plus significantly carries better battery specs including 6 days worth of standby time, two hours more of internet and up to 4 hours of video playback. Of course, you would need bigger (and deeper) pockets for the Plus but hey, better batteries!
Whichever iPhone you choose, it seems that Apple has finally opted to join the competitive smartphone market in terms of size. Let’s just hope that all these good things – including the IOS 8 – will be quite impressive when it officially comes out on September 19th on the Apple Store.
