Breaking Down the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus – Everything You Need to Know

Hear ye! Hear ye! The long wait is over! It’s September and every Apple fan knows it’s that time of the year when the company debuts its new iPhones.

For this year, joining the Apple roster is the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.

Early birds who want official bragging rights to be the first ones with this shiny, new gadget on their hands better get in line and prep for the September 12th pre-order option. Both phones will be available for pre-order starting 12:01 AM on the Apple website as well as various other partner outlets. Of course, you can also wait for September 25th for the official release date.

We know what you’re thinking, is this new phone worth buying?

To help you decide, we’ve gathered the most crucial information we could find about these newfangled iPhones. Go through them and check to see if these are the phones you’ve been waiting for.

Here’s the quick, no-fuss breakdown.

Let’s just get this out of the way. For the price, if you buy the phone outright, the iPhone 6s is $649 for 16 GB worth of memory. Meanwhile, the iPhone 6S Plus is $749 for 16 GB.

In the United States, users have more options. The phone coupled with the usual one-year contract starts at $199 and climbing up to $399 for the 128 GB. Some carriers are pushing for a leasing plan of $27/month for a 24-month installment. That price is on top of other fees.

Under the Hood:

For the processor, Apple claims these two will be the fastest smartphones in your hands. Both are fitted with a 64-bit A9 processor. According to Apple, these new gears promise to perform faster than what’s available at the current iPhone. They claim it performs CPU tasks 70% faster and graphic at 90% faster.

Remember, ‘Bendgate’? Well, Apple seems to have listened and taken the matter seriously by creating the 6S and 6S Plus with a 7000 aluminium series metal. This is tougher and more resistant, so, bye-bye bendgate!

While resolutions for the phones have stayed the same, there are more than a few tweaks and improvements added to these new models.

Selfie lovers and phone camera fans will be happy to know that Apple finally bumped up their camera game. It’s about time, we say!

Both the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus are fitted with 12-megapixel rear cameras. The best part is that these are capable of 4k quality HD recording. Be warned, it will eat up a lot of your memory space so you might want to take that into consideration when choosing your memory data. The 6S Plus has a slight advantage in that it incorporates image stabilization. For the front facing camera, it’s now 5-megapixels so you can say goodbye to pixelated Face Time.

Another cool feature they added to the camera is Live Photos. Sure, it’s a bit gimmicky but hey, who doesn’t love a moving image? The feature works by allowing you to record a short video before and after you snap a photo. Because of this, you get a unique seamless moving shot that seems to come to life.

Didn’t we say this phone was going to make selfie-lovers happy? Well, with the new Retina display as LED Flash, you won’t have to worry about dark lit or uneven lighting in your selfies. The entire display turns into one big LED flash whenever you click and use the front cam.

3D Touch:

This one is entirely new to the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. The 3D Touch is based on the Force Touch in the Apple Watch. Basically, it gives you access to features and shortcuts based on the amount of touch pressure you place on the screen or app icon. Essentially, you get a ‘peek and pop’ interface. Light press for a preview on an email or photo, ‘hard’ press if you want to dive into the app.

If you’ve ever complained about connectivity issues in your iPhone, well, well, you could probably say goodbye to that now. Apple has increased its support for more LTE bands. Twenty-three bands more are supported by the new models. The company also promises faster Wi-Fi connectivity. There’s even Bluetooth capability embedded in the system.

Apple has made it a tad more difficult to choose which colour device to go for with the addition of the Rose Gold shade. Both the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus models are still also available in Silver, Space Grey and Gold.

Both models still carry the 16 GB, the 64 GB and the 128 GB. No change on this one.

Although there’s very little noticeable difference, both the newer models are slightly bigger and thicker by just a few millimetres than their predecessors. The 6S retains a 4.7 inch display while the 6S Plus also stays with a 5.5 inch display.

Whew! So far, that’s all we know of these new models. There could be more fun surprises up ahead.

For the meantime, head to the Apple website and check out how to pre-order one if you’re interested. No doubt, with all the cool new features and overall, better specs, you’ll definitely end up loving these two.
