The single most pressing question inside the minds of iPhone lovers today is whether they should upgrade to the new iPhone 7 or stay with the 6s? Well, if you're like us, then you can't wait to get 7! There's something about a shiny new phone in your hand. Besides, the holidays is coming, don't you think you deserve a beautiful gift?
However, if you need some convincing about getting the new iPhone, don't worry, we've compiled 10 reasons why you should consider the move to iPhone 7. Let's dive in, shall we?
Reason 1: It's Waterproof!
Sure, other brands have done it before but it's refreshing to finally see Apple waterproof and dust proof their iPhones. The iPhone 7 is beautifully crafted to ensure you won't have to worry if you get water or a little rain on it. It can survive for a few meters underwater for as long as 30 minutes. Of course, it's not really made for underwater photography or even swimming, but hey, waterproof is better than nothing. You can use it under the rain and that's pretty neat. But if you plan to swim and take pictures with it, better carry a waterproof case.
Reason 2: No More Headphone Jacks
Essentially labelled as "Jackgate," the disappearance of the headphone jack in the iPhone 7 has caused a huge amount of uproar for both fans and non-fans of the brand. This is strictly a matter of preference but we don't think it's too bad. Taking the place of the regular jack is a Lightning port. You use it for charging and listening to your music. The box includes Earpods fitted with the new lightning port. However, they also include a dongle, which lets you convert the Lightning port into the traditional jack. From there, you can plug in your regular headphones. They're also coming out with the wireless Bluetooth "Airpods" this October so that's something you might want to check out well.
Reason 3: Dual Camera Lens with 2x Zoom
Camera lovers will rejoice with this news. The iPhone 7 camera remains the same at 12 megapixels at the rear and upgraded to 7 MP *from 5MP) for the front. Meanwhile, the larger iPhone7 Plus now includes 2x zoom and dual cameras at the back, letting you create fun Bokeh effects. The 2x optical zoom also works great ensuring you get crystal clear images even when you get up close and personal with your subject. For photography enthusiasts, you can also save RAW files now using third party apps like Lightroom. Overall, it won't replace your DSLR but it's one of the best cameras you can find on any smartphone today.
Reason 4: Sleek Display and New Home Button
This one is a bit different and would only be noticeable for those who have been using iPhones for a long time. Instead of using a physical home button, the iPhone 7 includes a smooth sensor that vibrates every time you click on it. This helps with the waterproofing of the phone and it also looks pretty sleek.
As for the display, it's not crazy good like the 4K OLED panels or the 2K but it does look beautiful. Images are sharp, vibrant and slightly warmer in tone compared to the 6S displays. Although regular users won't notice it, those with a keen eye will realize that this display captures a wider range of colours now. Take a picture with the iPhone 7 and you'll instantly see the difference in terms of color range and quality compared to that of the 6s versions.
Reason 5: Better Audio Quality
If you like to play your music sans headphones, then you would be happy with the iPhone 7. The built in speakers on this fresh version have been awesomely improved. One of the speakers remains in the same area, at the bottom of the phone. But, there's an extra speaker fitted with the earpiece, right at the top of the phone. With two speakers available, you can experience better sound quality with a noticeable difference in treble. The sound coming out of your phone is much louder and they actually sound decent. It's great for conference calls or simply watching YouTube or Snapchat without headphones.
Reason 6: Longer Lasting Batteries! (Hallelujah!)
Compared to the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, Apple promises you get better battery life with this one. After creating uproar with the lack of battery power with some of their previous models, we're just glad to see that Apple is finally taking the initiative in creating longer battery life for their iPhones. With the iPhone 7, they promise you will get an extra two hours compared with the 6s. And for the 7 Plus, you get an extra hour compared with the 6 Plus. It's not exactly life changing but hey, they've got to start somewhere.
Reason 7: Bigger Storage
Bye, bye 16 GB! The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus are only available starting at 32 GB, 128 GB and up to 256 GB. We think it's about time that Apple decided to ditch the 16 GB. Frankly, it just wasn't enough for most users today and with better cameras fitted on the phones, users would likely want to snap and video their way through all that storage. The 32 GB hits the sweet spot for most users while video obsessives can lavish on the 256 GB leaving plenty of room for all their stuff.
Reason 8: New Phone, New (More Powerful) Chip
The iPhone 7 might look exactly like its predecessor but under the hood, it contains a more powerful chip – the A10. This new chip promises to give you a better experience especially if you love gaming on your phone. It also feels much snappier if you're an extensive phone user whether for business or pleasure. It seems the company is making sure you get everything you need right in your own little pocket.
Reason 9: The iOS 10
Both the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus feature the latest iteration of the iOS. And seriously, it's the best version of iOS so far. The visual design is much more inviting and you get a better flow between various operations. Some of the latest tweaks include a better iMessage, an improved Control Centre and improved Siri that can be integrated with Third-Party Apps. There's also better integration with various smart devices you use at home.
Reason 10: Two Words - Matt Black and Jet Black
We know this is purely aesthetic but come on, who doesn't want to have a sleek black iPhone? The Matte Black version is striking despite its more understated feel – it's made from premium anodized aluminium and looks like something Batman would use.
Meanwhile, the Jet Black is one of the shiniest and most beautiful black phones you'll see around. It's reflective and perfect for those who love to show off their new device. Word of warning though, Apple admits that it's a fingerprint magnet and scratches easily so you might want to keep it protected with a case.
